The Swing

The Swing
by Robert Louis Stevenson

How do you like to go up in a swing,
Up in the air so blue?
Oh, I do think it the pleasantest thing
Ever a child can do!

Up in the air and over the wall,
Till I can see so wide,
Rivers and trees and cattle and all
Over the countryside—

Till I look down on the garden green,
Down on the roof so brown—
Up in the air I go flying again,
Up in the air and down!

My mom used to recite this poem to us over and over; it now comes to mind whenever I push my children on the swings. And I do agree that it is the "pleasantest thing" a child or grown-up can do. Aren't Emily and Josh the luckiest - to have these swings in their front yard!

I couldn’t agree more- swinging is definitely one of my favorite pastimes, but im curious what type of swinging is everybody’s favorite: traditional, tire? Personally I enjoy the rope swing into the lake…

I can feel the wind! Time a swing is to be cherished and I do!! Love those boys and the poem too.

Favorite swing: On grass with a long, long, long chain or rope for the flying swoop feeling.

hmm... I would say standard swings in an awesome place, like a lake or a mountain (homemade is ideal)
